Vancouver Art Gallery

Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director

From August 2020 to March 2025, Anthony Kiendl led the Vancouver Art Gallery, a non-profit and independent art museum, working closely with the Board and its various committees on strategic oversight and overall direction.

The Vancouver Art Gallery is located in a former provincial court house in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Renovated by architect Arthur Erickson, the Gallery has a history of curatorial innovation and excellence. Kiendl led the campaign and redesign for a new purpose-built art museum (in progress), increasing operating revenue, capital funds, attendance and memberships. He introduced a number of initiatives to foster community access and engagement including complimentary admission for children and youth, acquiring 1161 works for the permanent collection, re-organizing the institutional structure, recruiting a dynamic senior leadership team, and engaging the Gallery’s first Indigenous Advisory Council and Elder in Residence.
