Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art
Executive Director and Artistic Director 2006-2013/ Founding Director of Plug In ICA’s Summer Institute
From 2006 to 2013 Anthony Kiendl was the Executive Director/Artistic Director of Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art during a transformative time. Kiendl oversaw the building of a new purpose-built centre for contemporary art and education in partnership with the University of Winnipeg. Designed by DIN+PSA+David Penner architects, the facility is located next to Winnipeg Art Gallery in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. As Executive Director, Kiendl provided organizational leadership, and developed, maintained and implemented the overall missions, policies, programming and projects of Plug In ICA including artistic direction, research, design, communications, development, engagement, publishing and programs.
Key accomplishments included the creation of Plug In’s long-standing and celebrated Summer Institute, a residency and professional development program for artists, architects, curators and writers. Kiendl also edited the ICA periodical Inform, and created an operating endowment to ensure future sustainability.
